About

The Rev’d Will Rose-Moore is a priest and theologian, currently serving as Assistant Curate at St John the Baptist, Loughton in The Diocese of Chelmsford. He is also studying for a PhD in Theology with Westcott House in the Cambridge Theological Federation and Anglia Ruskin University. Will is the author of Boys Will Be Boys, and Other Myths: Unravelling Biblical Masculinities (2022) and editor of For Nothing is Hidden: Masculinities and Trauma in Church and Theology (forthcoming).

Alongside ministry, Will’s work broadly focuses on gender, sexuality, trauma, and violence, and their intersections with theology and the Bible. In his doctoral study, Will is researching masculinities and constructive theologies (especially trauma theology), supervised by Dr Karen O’Donnell (Westcott House and Cambridge University, UK) and Professor David Tombs (University of Otago, NZ). Will also holds a BA (First Class Honours) and an MTh (Distinction) in theology and biblical studies from Cardiff University, and a PGCert (Distinction) in Theology, Ministry, and Mission with the Cambridge Theological Federation, accredited by Durham University.

Will has had numerous publications, ranging from books, journal articles, and chapters in edited volumes, to popular blog posts and newspaper articles. His first book Boys Will Be Boys, and Other Myths: Unravelling Biblical Masculinities (SCM Press, 2022) introduces studies of masculinities and the Bible to a popular Christian audience. Will is currently preparing his second book For Nothing is Hidden, an edited collection on masculinities and trauma in church and theology that will be published with SCM Press in 2026.

Keen to share his research on, and own experiences of, masculinity, (bi)sexuality, faith, and theology, Will has made various media appearances, including for television, radio, and podcasts. He also makes regular social media content, including for the Church of England’s digital team. Will has also had an extensive range of speaking engagements, giving guest lectures and talks for a variety of institutions and churches, including St Paul’s Cathedral, London and theological colleges in Cambridge and across the UK. Will is often commended as an engaging and gifted preacher – he has given sermons in various churches and contexts throughout the country, and is available upon invitation.

Will trained for ordained ministry at Westcott House, Cambridge. During this time as an ordinand, he held several roles including the first Inclusion Representative, developing strategies for inclusion and diversity in the student body, and Bar Theology Co-Convener, inviting and hosting speakers such as Rev’d Dr Charlie Bell, Rev’d Prof. Kelly Brown Douglas, and Prof. Anthony Reddie.

Since 2024, Will has acted as Research Assistant for the Jesus & Trauma project, which has held several small colloquiums exploring traumatic experience in the life of Christ. He was also Research Associate for the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence from 2022 until July 2025. Recently, Will has been invited to be a member of the Steering Group for the upcoming Coventry University project ‘New Christian Masculinities: Searching for meaning and security in a polarised world’ (2026-28), and has also become a member of the Church of England’s Young Priest Theologian Network (2025-).

Will has received awards and funding for his work, including: various PhD funding and grants (2022-6); a 30(ish) Award and, additionally, the Equity Advocate Special Recognition Award from Cardiff University’s Alumni Network (2023); two years of PhD funding from the Church of England’s Research Degree Panel (2022-4); Cardiff University’s Master’s Excellence Scholarship (2019); and shortlisted for the best student paper prize at the Centre for the Study of Bible and Violence’s inaugural symposium (2019).

When he isn’t writing, speaking, preaching, or in ministry, you might find Will playing piano, enjoying a good musical or movie, cuddling his cat Theo, or out on a run!
